Hat Care
All grass-fibre hats, bags & products by Lorna Murray have been carefully handcrafted, woven on looms, by our artisans in South East Asia.
Our hats are designed with ease of travel in mind, meaning you can wear and travel with them for years, from rainforests to beaches,
from mountains to towns, from trains to planes, while maintaining their stability.
While they are durable, due to their handcrafted nature, our pieces always need to be handled with care. We value conscious consuming and the time-honoured skills and experienced hands of our artisans. By handling your Lorna Murray pieces with care you will extend the lifetime of your artisanal pieces.
How To Care For Your Artisanal Pieces
- Do not leave your hat in the car or in direct sunlight when not being worn.
- Pulling or tugging too firmly on the weave of the hat may cause ripping.
- Always be gentle while handling these pieces.
- Do not crush, squeeze or bend the grass fibres. A soft brush can be used to remove dust.
- Your fibre hat, bag or product can be sponged lightly with a damp cloth or a soft brush.
- Fibre items can be cleaned using a mild soap solution; combine a tablespoon of mild washing powder with cold water.
- Pat gently with a cloth, then rinse. Do not use chemical cleaners. If wet, dry away from direct sunlight.
- Colours may soften & fibres may become more fragile over time.
- Any potential irregularities in the fibre, weave and colour are common and characteristic of the handmade process.
How To Fold Our Pleated Hats
To fold your pleated hat, fold the brim of the hat upwards so it is against the crown of the hat.
Gently fold the hat inwards, towards the inside of the hat in an 'S' shape.
The hat ties can be used to keep the hat in this shape. Or, place the hat into its handmade natural fibre fabric bag for travel.
How To Fold Our Structured Hats
Our structured hats can't be folded like our pleated hats.
Instead, the brim can be gently flipped up and down, depending on whether you are wearing or storing it.
How To Fold Our Sun Visors
Our Sun Visors can be folded gently in half and placed in its drawstring fabric bag for travel.

How To Store Our Hats
To extend the life of your handmade item, avoid leaving folded for extended periods of time. When not being worn, there are four storage options:
1. Rest your hat upside down on the crown.
2. Rest your hat with the brim and crown facing upwards.
3. Lay folded in half and flat.
4. Store folded in your fabric bag.
Always store carefully.
Water And Your Lorna Murray Hat
We hope you enjoy your new Lorna Murray hat by the poolside or at the beach.
It will sustain a few splashes, however, please avoid immersing your hat in water as this will cause irreparable damage.
